Moving between Mandarin Chinese and English, THE HOTPOT invites us to the table, where a daughter is fed, corrected, hurried, and overfilled in a ritual that is at once intimate, absurd, and quietly horrifying. A mother feeds with tender precision. A father directs with exacting force. A daughter, bowl in hand, struggles to keep pace with a choreography she has rehearsed all her life. As raw meat, boiling broth, and unspoken expectations pile higher and higher, an ordinary dinner table transforms into a feverish landscape of love, control, and performance.
